The risk of radicalization in Italy affects women as much as men, the subjects most exposed to jihadist propaganda are adolescents and young people still without a defined role in society, direct contact with radicalized peers in the adolescent stage in schools or on the net through real propaganda campaigns, represents one of the vehicles of conversion and recruitment.
Young girls who establish relationships with men linked to radical Islam circles end up being forced into conversion and subsequently into compliance with shariah rules.
Youth isolation, the gangsta culture promoted by rap and trap, and social discomfort represent an opportunity for jihadist organizations to recruit foreign fighters; the network represents the parallel world in which young people immerse themselves without adequate superstructures, a worldwide pool from which to draw in order to implement real plagiarism.
It is essential, through institutions and associations, to insert oneself in youth circles by making them perceive the presence of the state and the possibility of ways out, to intercept that unease on which these extremist realities aim to cultivate the seed of religious fundamentalism and hatred by implementing effective countermeasures to the spread of dangerous proselytism.
The promotion of national identity, the sharing of Western values and the Christian religion, should be at the center of the education of young European citizens, enhancing decentralized realities capable of providing spaces and alternatives to adolescents in the stage of building their identity, removing them from the risk of plagiarism from extreme environments and criminal realities.
The current debate generated by the Ius Scholae proposal raises many questions about what are the possible consequences of facilitating the acquisition of Italian citizenship; it is dangerous not to evaluate this measure also from a security perspective. The risk of creating a pass-partout for those who enter the country with the purpose of recruiting and radicalizing those disoriented young people in search of a group with which to fit in or identify themselves or with the aim of fueling anti-Western sentiment that transcends into the acts of egregious violence carried out by so-called “lone wolves.”
The symbols and traditions of Western culture should not be omitted or censored so as not to offend the cultures of those who choose to settle in our nation, they should represent the basis of the construction of the identity of the Italian citizen, making the acceptance and sharing of these values indispensable for those who hope to be able to achieve the goal of the much-discussed citizenship.
